The use of calcium oxide

1. The main use of quicklime is in the basic oxygen steelmaking process. Its usage is approximately 30 to 50 kilograms (65 to 110 pounds) per ton of steel. Quicklime neutralizes acidic oxides to produce alkaline slag.

2. Ground quicklime is used to produce aerated concrete blocks, with a density of approximately 100. 0.6-1.0g/cm3 (9.8-16.4g/cubic inch).
